Today, it is considered within the Israeli lands, as we find it in the northern district of Israel, and its population is mostly Jews, with an estimated number of residents of 46 thousand people, after its original Arab inhabitants were displaced following the war that took place in 1948 AD.

Herod took great care of this city, as it flourished during his reign, as he saw it as the only defensive site in the area around Lake Kinneret, and this is the main reason why Herod built a castle near the shore of the lake, and also because this city Close to the site of the Roman baths, which in turn made this city its own splendor, as the Romans took great care of it. It was conquered by the Muslims in the year 634 AD, at the hands of the commander Sharhabeel bin Hasna, as it became the capital of what is known as Jund al-Urdunn, and we find that the Arabs inhabited it, just as the city of Tiberias was divided during the Arab presence in it, before the war that took place. It took place in 1948 AD between the Arabs and Israel, to:

• coastal strip: It includes the boat station, as well as the Zaidan Mosque, and the places extending from the slaughterhouse to the spa.
• middle section: It includes the main hospital, as well as the hospitals there for missionaries, and there is an old building for the government, as well as the main commercial market.
• Western section: It includes the lands of the sections, which are the places where the stones were cut, as well as agricultural lands.

However, after the war took place in 1948 AD, the features of this city were changed, especially from the northern side of it, as its Arab neighborhoods were demolished by the Israeli occupation, and settlements known today as Kiryat Shmona were established in their place, and many parks and gardens were established. In addition, several tourist hotels and modern buildings were built in the area, and the Israeli authorities established residential neighborhoods, where we find a new neighborhood built on the western heights of this city, overlooking the Tiberias baths.

Tiberias was a mixed city, with Arabs and Muslims making up half of its population and Jews making up the other half.
