One of the ancient Algerian cities with its history and monuments, it is located to the southwestern side of the wilaya of Bouira, and the name of the city is attributed to the surrounding wall. As for the deer, they are the windows of the wall. The wall takes the shape of a rectangle with four gates. The city is one hundred and twenty kilometers away from the capital. The Deer Wall is located in the middle of a wide plateau with a height of about eight hundred and fifty meters. It is located to the north of Mount Deira.

Access to the city of Sur al-Ghazlan is through one of its four gates, which are:
- Algeria Gate: Located to the north, this gate was built in the mid-nineteenth century.
- Bou Saada Gate: This gate is located in the south, and this gate was built one year after the construction of the Algeria Gate.
- Bab Setif: This gate is located to the east, and was built one year after the construction of the Bou Saada gate.
- Medea's door: It was built in the same year in which the Bou Saada Gate was built.
It is mentioned that the gates of the wall are similar to the gates of the palaces of the kings of the elves and are concentrated in the four sides of the city. They were built of smooth brown stones, which are lined evenly and accurately, and this is the reason for their steadfastness through the ages despite all the storms and wars that swept the city. The city was called Uzia the Amazigh in the Numidian era, and among the monuments of this time period is the shrine of the commander Takfarinas, who is one of the Berber kings in the Kingdom of Numidia, and the shrine is considered one of the most wonderful Roman relics in the city, and the city was called Umal during the French colonial era, in relation to Dik Umal, the son of the last king France Louis Philippe I, where the city became a military center during the French colonial era in the year one thousand nine hundred and forty-five AD.
