It is one of the Palestinian cities, and it is an integral part of the city of Bethlehem, as it is complementary to it in several areas, including health, summer, tourism and education. Its climate is moderate, with an average temperature of seventeen degrees Celsius, and the name Beit Jala means the land of grass, flowers, and pasture land, and it gained its name from the Aramaic language.
Location and population
The city of Beit Jala is located in the southwest of the city of Jerusalem, on an area estimated at seven thousand meters, and Beit Jala borders the city of Bethlehem from the east, and Al-Walaja and Battir from the west, and it is bordered by the city of Doha and the village of Al-Khader from the south, and as for the north, it is bordered by Beit Safafa and the village of Al-Shurafat, and the city of Beit Jala rises eight hundred and fifty meters from the sea, with a population of about sixteen thousand, and there is a large amount of immigration, especially from the youth category, because of the political and economic conditions they are exposed to.

The historical land of Beit Jala is estimated at about fourteen thousand dunums, the occupation seized about half of it, with the aim of constructing a line of stone and also the tunnel, as well as areas for the plan of the structure, and the rest of the city’s area is approximately seven thousand dunums. There are many factories in it, such as a wine factory, a pharmaceutical factory, bricks, foodstuffs, as well as candles, and it is especially distinguished in the textile industry, and there are many crafts and handicrafts, such as embroidery, carpentry, woodworking, stone carving in addition to paint, and the high price of materials Raw materials, electricity, and lack of water, these factors posed major obstacles and challenges for these industries.

The city includes a public park, as well as many hotels and restaurants, and there are also three banks, and there are a number of civil society institutions such as the Mother and Child Center.

The city of Beit Jala includes many churches, including the Church of the Annunciation for the Latins, the Church of St. Michael for the Greek Orthodox, the Church of St. Mar Nicholas for the Greek Orthodox, in addition to the two mosques of the Beit Jala Mosque and the Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal Mosque.
