Geography of Libya

Libya's natural geography is divided into several regions, the first of which is the Libyan coast, which is the longest coastline overlooking the Mediterranean, with a length of 1770 km. for cold currents. The Libyan Desert covers most of the land in Libya, and it is part of the Great Desert in North Africa that includes all the countries located in that region, with exceptions in the highlands, oases, and the course of the Nile River in Egypt. This desert is one of the most arid and dry places on Earth, and in the middle of that desert there are many natural hazards such as areas of shifting sands, sandstorms, and monsoons of extreme heat. In Libya, there are many oases inhabited by different tribes of Arab, Amazigh, and Berber tribes. And this vast desert is characterized by the presence of underground water reservoirs that can suffice the life of the population for hundreds of years, in addition to the presence of a strategic stock of unextracted oil on which the state relied in its economy for many years.
