The city of Diyarbakir is one of the important cities in the Turkish Republic, and it is the largest city in the southeastern section, in addition to being the capital of the administrative province of Diyarbakir, which also bears the name of this city located on the banks of the Tigris River, in a site known as the ancient city of (Ameda).

The area of this city is estimated at 15.272 square kilometers, and it is considered the second largest city in the Anatolia region located in the southeastern part of the Turkish state, as its population today exceeds 1,362,708 people, and the majority are Kurds.
