The city of Darma is a very ancient city, and has been mentioned since the first century AH. It was mentioned by the poet Jarir Al-Umayyad, and he said about it as Qarma, and it was also mentioned by Yaqut Al-Hamwi in the seventh century AH, and with the passage of days and its succession it became known as Dharma, and the pre-Islamic poet Al-A’sha also mentioned it in his poem as Dharmaa. As for naming Dharmaa, it means abundance. Water, according to Sheikh Abdullah bin Khamis; He mentioned it in his famous book, Dictionary of Al-Yamamah, and because natural factors and climate change affected the water in it and it became scarce, he changed the name from Qarma to Dharma, in line with the scarcity of its water, and this city is known to have been a city with many palm trees.

Landmarks and monuments of Dharma

This city has an important geographical landmark. To the northeastern side of Darma, we find an area known as the Al Bateen area, and there is a tall mountain that had been separated since ancient times from the chain known in the area as the Tuwaiq Mountains. The reason for this separation was the results of weather factors, especially erosion, and this mountain is known today as Al Hamid. ; It is attributed to a water droplet, and it is located on the opposite side of Mount Tuwaiq. This name was taken from its acidity, and it is a famous landmark in the city.
