The word Tripoli is an Arabization of the Greek word “Triblos”, as it means the three cities, where a federation was established on its land for three Phoenician cities: Sidon, Tyre, and Arwad. Tripoli is located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and it forms a link between the coastal cities and the inner cities of Syria and Iraq. It is the center of the northern Lebanon governorate, and it is the second capital of Lebanon after Beirut, as it is about 85 km away from Beirut from the north side, and it is also far from the northern Lebanese-Syrian border. The number of antiquities of this city reaches more than two hundred, which makes it an important archaeological site, as it is the first city with its heritage wealth on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, and the second city with its Mamluk antiquities after Cairo, as it represents a museum that combines Byzantine and Roman monuments, Crusader and Fatimid antiquities, and architecture. Ottoman and Mamluk, and it must be noted that the majority of these antiquities date back to the Mamluk era, then the Ottoman, then the Crusader, then the Byzantine.
