The history of this city dates back to BC, when people used to live in tents made of animal skins. In the fifth century BC, Beit Shean was under Egyptian rule, as traces of the Egyptians are still clearly visible.

It was one of the cities subject to the rule of the Greeks, and after that it was subject to the rule of the Romans, and we evidence this through the Roman amphitheater located there specifically at the site of Tell Al-Hosn, which is one of the important Roman monuments in the city, in addition to the Roman bridge. Thus, the city of Beit Shean became one of the largest and most important cities (Decapolis), where caravans traveling between the Levant and Egypt gathered. The city is also distinguished by its strategic and fortified nature, in addition to the fact that it was surrounded by high walls during the era of the Canaanites because it was considered the most important city for them in Palestine, and it remained in this state until the Egyptian Pharaohs came and destroyed it. With regard to the period of the British Mandate over Palestine, the population of the city of Beit Shean was about five thousand people, but due to the war of 1948 AD, the city’s residents abandoned it and left it, and Israel subsequently Judaized the city.
