What is the SAT test?

The world has recently witnessed great development in the field of science and education, which has led to a tremendous increase in the number of schools, institutes and universities, which has also led to a continuous effort to maintain the quality of students’ educational outcomes. This has necessitated the emergence of what are called scholastic proficiency exams, which aim to maintain On the quality of education, one of the most famous of these exams is the SAT test.

SAT test concept

It is an exam that American students take while they are in high school, in order to be accepted into an American college. This test is also very widespread in the countries of the Arab world, especially in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan, but it is limited only to private schools, and SAT is considered a non-profit organization in the United States. The United States of America, and it is owned by the College Board, and the Educational Testing Service Committee supervising the test worked to develop it. The reason behind applying this test in schools is the College Board’s urgent demands for its implementation. This is because it prepares the student to enter college. The first test was given in 1901 AD, although the name and registration had been changed four times.

This test is conducted several times a year, but in order for students to register for this test in the United States of America, they must go within certain months, which are: October, November, December, January, May, and June. In the rest of the countries of the world, registration takes place with the same dates. Which have been specified in the United States of America, and students wishing to register must do so through the College Board’s website, or by mail or phone, but this must be done at least three weeks before the test date.

The cost of SAT tests is $45 for students from the United States of America, and $71 for students from outside the United States of America. As for students who are late in registering, they initially pay $20 as a basic registration fee, and after that they pay $9 for each test they take, in addition to Paying late registration fees, and the College Council has the decision to grant low-income and poor students an exemption from paying fees.

SAT test sections

The SAT test is divided into three sections of tests, which are as follows:

  • Mathematics: It consists of three tests that are presented in English, and these tests are:
  1. A 25-minute test consisting of 20 multiple choice questions.
  2. A 25-minute test, consisting of 8 multiple choice questions and ten direct answer questions.
  3. A 20-minute test consisting of 16 multiple-choice questions.
  • Reading and Grammar: This section also includes three tests in English: Two of them are 25 minutes long, and the third test is 20 minutes long. This test generally focuses on the student’s terminology and vocabulary in the language, and the student’s ability to compose and understand sentences and essay pieces. In this test, the student must read the paragraphs, then begin solving the questions. The nature of the questions here is many and varied.
  • Writing: Here this test is divided into two parts:
  1. The first section includes multiple choice questions and true or false questions with error correction. This section aims to test the student’s skills in English grammar.
  2. The second section, which lasts 25 minutes, requires the student to write a paragraph in English, the topic of which usually revolves around the student’s opinion on a specific issue or matter.
