Explicit or obscene flirting

It is also called pornographic or urban poetry, and it was called urban poetry because it appeared in cities and most of its poets were urban people. Ghazal poetry through the ages

Ghazal poetry was affected by the environment, time, and circumstances surrounding the poet throughout the different eras, and like any art, it is subject to development and modernization with the passage of time. In this matter, the following is mentioned of what happened to Ghazal poetry throughout the ages and times:

  • The pre-Islamic era: This type of poetry began to convey feelings, and most of the poems of that time were famous for standing on ruins. Because their lives were based on frequent movement and traveling, and pre-Islamic poetry was far from ornamental. Because the poet expressed his feelings and love with complete spontaneity, and the majority of poets in the pre-Islamic era shared the same topics and method of composing poetic poems.
  • Islamic eraWhen Islam spread and its authority became great, flirtation became more chaste and less common, and Islam did not forbid it.
  • Umayyad periodThis poetry grew and advanced due to the security and religious stability that prevailed in it, and the concept of explicit or obscene flirtation that was previously mentioned and defined appeared in it.
  • Abbasid eraWith the weakness of religion and morals among people, flirtation poetry in this era, like other aspects of life, witnessed progress and prosperity. Obscene flirtation spread, previous values of love differed, and poets began to flirt with foreign women in an immoral manner.
  • Andalusian eraThe poetry was reflected in the beauty of the enchanting nature of Andalusia and the lavish life of luxury that the Muslims lived. Some princes and kings also wrote poetry extensively, and it was characterized by verbal ornamentation in its beginnings, then it was dominated by the style of simplicity in writing and meanings.
  • The modern eraSpinning flourished due to the disappearance of other purposes of poetry, such as satire, and poets used a style similar to the old Abbasid style used in poetry, or using a new and modern style, or both, and the view of women differed. She is no longer just the beloved that the poet loves and loves, but he now looks at her as a mother, sister, and friend, so the love poems for women in the modern era have differed.
