Yanbu is one of the Saudi cities, and Yanbu was given this name in reference to the many water springs, the number of which reaches three hundred and seventy water springs. Yanbu is the second coastal city in area after Jeddah.

The city of Yanbu is located on the coast of the Red Sea. Yanbu is a governorate administratively affiliated with the Medina Governorate. The city of Yanbu is located 200 km west of Medina, 300 km north of the Saudi city of Jeddah, and 300 km south of the city of Al-Wajh. The city of Yanbu is considered one of the ancient historical cities that has been known for thousands of years. It was given this name in reference to the palm plantations that extend to all sides of the city, and it was called Wadi Al-Naeem because of the many water springs and the dense palm plantations that surround it. There are a number of villages and ports in this city, the most important of which is Al-Jar Port, where Portuguese ships used to dock while passing through the Red Sea. It was also important in the past due to the passage of trade caravans and pilgrims’ caravans during their crossing to the cities of Hijaz and the cities of the Arabian Peninsula, and then crossing to the cities of the Levant.

This city is characterized by the active tourist part of the city of Yanbu, and it is considered one of the first-class international tourist destinations. It is an area of enchanting beauty as it directly overlooks the waters of the Red Sea. There are many tourist resorts in this city. Yanbu Industrial City was established in 1975 AD and is called the Royal Commission. This city provides many job opportunities and successful economic projects. This city also has the largest industrial port, which is King Fahd Industrial Port. It also contains a number of oil refineries, and Yanbu Industrial City competes with other industrial cities in the world by being the largest. We note that an artificial lake was also created to include the largest global resort in it.
