The story of naming Nablus

The reason for calling it Nablus is that there is a great and very large snake in the Nablus Valley, and people used to call it “Lus.” The people gathered and agreed to deceive this snake so that they could kill it and get rid of it. Indeed, they were able to deceive it and kill it. Then they uprooted its fang and hung it on the gate of the city, and after that they said: (Lus fang), meaning the fang of the snake. After that, this name became widely used, then the two terms were merged with each other, and it became called Nablus.

The city of Nablus contains many important tourist places; Among them are the Victory Mosque, the Great Mosque, Jacob's Well, and the ancient Samaritan Quarter. It also includes approximately 30 beautiful and amazing minarets. Among them is the minaret of Al-Nasser Mosque, and the oldest Turkish bath is located on the eastern side of Al-Nasser Mosque. You can also visit Tuqan Castle, which was an old Turkish palace. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful, sprawling garden, with an amazing exterior architectural style. The city of Nablus is famous for its Nabulsi soap industry. It is one of the important industries in the city.

History of the city of Nablus

The city of Nablus has been considered one of the large Arab Muslim cities for several centuries, in addition to being a major center for the small Samaritan community. In the period between 1920-1948 AD, Nablus was part of the British mandate for Palestine, then it was annexed to Jordan. It is noteworthy that it was a major center for the Arab opposition. Against Britain and the Zionist movement; It was a constant scene of unrest, and in the period between 1948-1967 AD, Nablus was the center of guerrilla warfare against Israel, and resistance there continued even after the Six-Day War in 1967 AD, and the situation became less severe there by the early seventies of the last century, and events and resistance returned once again. Another on the Nabulsi scene after the October War of 1973 AD; Nablus became a center for Arab opposition against the Israeli occupation, and after the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993 AD, the city came under the control of the Palestinian National Authority.
