History of Medina

The founding of Medina dates back to about 1600 years before the Prophet’s migration, and it was inhabited at that time by an Arab tribe called Abeel, who spoke the Arabic language, and there are many ancient historical texts that referred to this city, including the Assyrian texts dating back to the sixth century BC, especially the inscriptions Nabonidus, which referred to the name of the city as Lathribo, and the word Yathrib was also found in the Greek historical writings when Claudius Ptolemy referred to an oasis located in the Hijaz called Lathriba, as this name was mentioned in the writings of the Ma’in Kingdom, and it was mentioned among the cities that were inhabited by some Ma’in communities. .

This city includes the three oldest mosques in the world, the most important of which are: the Prophet’s Mosque, the Quba Mosque, and the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, and this is what made it a city of great importance to Muslims because of the migration of the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, to it, and his residence there throughout his life. The wall that came down in this city was called the civil wall, and this city includes many monuments and monuments. Such as the Prophet’s Mosque, Al-Baqi Cemetery, Quba Mosque, which is the first mosque built in Islam, the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, and Mount Uhud.

In Medina, the desert dry climate prevails, which is characterized by its dryness and lack of precipitation, and its high temperatures that range between 30-40 degrees Celsius in the summer, and in the winter it is rainy, and it rains a lot in the month of April, and the low humidity is indicated in most days of the year.

Medina Geography

The city is located in a quadruple cavity that reaches towards the west, and is bordered by basalt rocks from the eastern, western, and southern sides. And the southeast, and in the north there are many lands with high salinity, and unsuitable for agriculture.

There are triple and quaternary formations of basalt rocks, and andesite scattered in the Rahat free zone, and there are a group of spills in the form of bubbling layers of the remains of volcanoes mixed with yellow and white clay, and there are thick layers of basalt that reach a depth of two hundred meters in the areas south of the city, and there is abundant silt in many regions, except for the basal peaks.
