Cave of Thawr and the Prophet’s migration

Cave of Thawr is a hollow rock at the top of Mount Thawr. It resembles a small ship with its back facing upward and it has two openings, one of which is located in the front and the other opening is located in the back. Cave of Thawr is larger than the Cave of Hira and it is farther than the Cave of Hira from Mecca. He took refuge in it. The Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, when he migrated with his companion Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, and they took refuge there from the oppression of the infidels of Quraish, as they followed the path of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and allocated a precious reward to whoever finds him. The cave was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an in the Almighty’s saying: (If you will not help him, then God helped him when those who disbelieved expelled him, the second of two, when they were in the cave, when he said to his companion, “Do not be sad. Indeed, God is with us.”)

On the night of the migration, the Quraysh were not aware that God Almighty had given permission to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, to migrate, and they began plotting against the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Muslims. On the night of the twenty-seventh of the month of Safar, in the fourteenth year of the Messenger’s mission, peace and blessings be upon him, the Messenger went to the house of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, and informed him of the departure, and then Abu Bakr asked the Messenger to accompany him, and they actually left Mecca before dawn, and took a road opposite the main road, which is the road located south of Mecca, until they reached Mount Thawr.

When the polytheists discovered the departure of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, they began searching for him and they searched the entire mountains of Mecca, and when they arrived at Thawr Cave on the top of Mount Thawr, the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, heard the sounds of their feet. Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq said to the Messenger(O Messenger of God! If one of them looked at his feet, he would see us under his feet, and said, O Abu Bakr! What do you think of two people, of whom God is the third?) They stayed in the cave for three nights, until the infidels of Quraysh were cut off from them, and on the night of Rabi’ al-Awwal of the fourteenth year of the Messenger’s mission, they left the cave and continued their journey with Abdullah bin Ariqat and Amer bin Fuhaira. Thus, the Cave of Thawr played a major role in the success of the Prophet’s migration, peace and blessings be upon him, to Medina.
