  • Most of the Syrian Arabs left the area during the outbreak of the Six-Day War in 1967 AD, and approximately 20000 Druze residents remained in it, and now the plateau is home to Israeli settlers.
  • It seems that naming the Golan Heights is related to the Arabic verb (gal), which means to circle around it, or to wander in it, or that it is the area exposed to dusty winds.
