How to make liquid soap

Methods for preparing liquid soap

Use bars of soap

Liquid hand soap can be made from soap bars in an easy way by following the following steps:

  • Grate bars of soap weighing approximately 113 grams using a blender or manually.
  • Boil 4 cups of water, then turn off the heat after it boils.
  • Add the grated soap flakes to the water and stir until they dissolve, paying attention to continue stirring until the mixture is completely mixed, as the consistency of the mixture is very liquid.
  • Allow the mixture to cool for at least 15 minutes and then stir, as the soap will become a little thicker.
  • Leave the soap for a few hours or overnight until it cools.
  • Stir the soap to check its density. It is recommended to reheat the soap and add more flakes if the consistency of the soap is very liquid. However, if the consistency is very thick, it is recommended to reheat the soap and add more water, as the moisture content varies between types of soap, so it is likely to With a few modifications to complete the recipe.
  • After reaching the desired degree of density, it is possible to add some drops of any essential oil or dye, or both, according to desire, taking care that the percentage of essential oil does not exceed 2% of the entire recipe. However, if it is intended for use by children, it is recommended that it does not exceed 1% of the entire recipe. Its percentage is about XNUMX%.
  • Finally, the soap is poured into dispensing containers, and it is ready for use.

NoteIf you want to prepare a smaller or larger quantity than the previous quantity, the measurement is made by using a cup of water for every approximately 28.3 grams of soap flakes.

Use potassium hydroxide flakes

Liquid soap is made by using potassium hydroxide flakes and some other ingredients. The amount of soap produced with this recipe is estimated at about five and a half liters. It is noteworthy that potassium hydroxide is also called “soap solution” (in English: lye). This method is prepared by following the following steps:

  • Prepare the ingredients required for making soap, which are obtained from health or industrial stores. These ingredients are:
    • 312 grams (11 ounces) of potassium hydroxide flakes.
    • Approximately 4 cups (33 ounces) of distilled water.
    • 3 cups (24 ounces) of coconut oil.
    • One and a quarter cups (10 ounces) of castor oil.
    • A cup and a quarter (10 ounces) of olive oil.
    • 85 grams (3 ounces) of jojoba oil.
  • Preparing the necessary equipment, which includes:
    • Pottery pot.
    • Glass or plastic measuring utensils.
    • Kitchen scale.
    • Electric stick blender.
    • Protective glasses and gloves.
    • Necessary safety clothing.
    • Provide adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Weigh the oils, place them in the clay pot, and heat them over low heat, focusing on adding the specified amount of each oil.
  • Wear protective clothing and open the windows before starting to prepare the lye solution. After that, the distilled water is weighed in a large container, and the lye is weighed in another container. Then the lye is added to the water while continuing to stir, focusing on adding the lye to the water and not the other way around. To avoid a dangerous reaction.
  • Add the potassium hydroxide solution to the oil mixture slowly, while stirring using the mixing stick to mix the ingredients completely. It will be noted in this step that the mixture has begun to thicken, but it is recommended to continue stirring until the mixture becomes thick enough, and this is done by seeing the effect of the spoon when stirring the mixture. The mixture will continue to thicken until it becomes like a paste.
  • Continue cooking the mixture over low heat for about 6 hours, with the need to monitor it every 30 minutes and stir it with a spoon to see its effect. The completion of the cooking process of the paste is confirmed by testing this by dissolving the soap, where 28 grams of soap paste are taken and dissolved in 60 grams ( Two ounces) of boiling water. The mixture will be clear instead of milky.
  • Weigh the paste to ensure that its mass is approximately 454 grams after the end of the cooking process, then add an amount of distilled water (976 milliliters/33 ounces) to dilute the paste, as the paste will dissolve in the water within several hours.
  • After the paste is diluted, favorite dye and essential oils can be added to give it a distinctive color and scent.
  • Pour the soap into several containers to store, then close them well.

Using liquids other than water to make liquid soap

Liquids other than water can be used in the process of preparing liquid soap. Goat's milk is one of the most common alternatives, as it makes the soap a beautiful, creamy moisturizer. Soap makers also use coconut milk or even buttermilk. Coffee or green tea can also be used, but with It is necessary to be more careful, as these liquids interact with lye differently than water. It is noteworthy that lye often changes the appearance of the soap to a brown consistency with an unpleasant smell, but this smell does not last in the final form of the soap.
