Wadi Natrun
The city of Wadi El-Natroun is considered the main capital of the Wadi El-Natroun Center. This center includes four villages distributed over four units, and it also includes about 37 hamlets, Kafr, and Ezbet. These four villages are Al-Hamra village, Al-Jaar village, Bani Salama village, and Kafr Daoud village.

Wadi El-Natroun is located in the Egyptian Beheira Governorate, in the northeastern regions of the Western Desert in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Wadi El-Natroun is also located in the area between the cities of Alexandria and Cairo, in the middle of the desert road connecting them. To the north of this depression there is the center of Abu Al-Matamir and the center of Badr, while to the east of it there is Sadat City, while the center of Al-Hamam is located to the west of this depression, and finally to the south of it lies the city of 6th of October.
History of Wadi Natroun
This area, called Wadi El-Natrun, had great importance during the era of the Pharaohs, as salt was extracted from this land, and this salt was what they used to mummify their dead with it. Also, this valley had gained sanctification, as the Holy Family passed through this area, and Wadi Natron has many other names other than this name, including Shehit, Hooker’s Well, the salt field, and other names. This region is also distinguished by the fact that it was the first Christian gathering, and this gathering was a monastic gathering, and this gathering was held four centuries after the birth of Jesus Christ - peace be upon him -. The first gathering was led by the founder of the Monastery of Anba Makar, Makar the Great. This monastery is a monastery that exists to this day, and it is adjacent to three other monasteries, and these monasteries are the Monastery of Al-Baramous, the Monastery of Al-Syrian, and the Monastery of Anba Bishoy. There were approximately 700 monasteries in this region alone in the 4th century AD. Hence, this area has a special sanctity for the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox community.
