How to plant apricot seeds

Apricots are considered one of the fruits that contain stone seeds, and they are one of the fruits that are famous for their growth and maturity in temperate regions and are known as a Mediterranean fruit. Apricots need to grow in many special soil and climate conditions for the success of planting apricot seeds.

Apricots contain beneficial nutrients, as they contain potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and many elements of high value to the body. Apricots are used in many types of sweets, jams, and fresh juices, and they can also be dried to benefit from them out of season.

Conditions in which apricots grow

  • Apricot fruits need yellow clay soil that is completely free of salts and drains water. This is the most successful soil for growing apricots.
  • The ground level is lowered by approximately one and a half to two meters below ground level.
  • It is preferable not to plant apricots in highly compacted lands that contain gravel stones, because they contain a high percentage of potassium when they dry, and this causes diseases to the plants and roots and spoils the crops.
  • Apricots need large areas for planting because of the strength and durability of the roots and the extended type, so it is preferable to leave many meters between each tree.

How to plant apricot seeds

  • We prepare apricot seeds, put them in a wet bag, and put it in the refrigerator for two months.
  • We then place the seeds in a moist, warm place and leave them until the leaves sprout.
  • We then place the seedlings in the soil designated for growing apricots, as we talked about previously.
  • Apricots need many conditions to germinate from the seed, and for a long time if we leave it to weather factors, but in this way we speed up the germination process to obtain apricots as quickly as possible. However, when apricot fruits mature, their lifespan is short and they do not exist throughout their season due to their exposure to adverse conditions.
  • When apricot seeds are left to grow from nature, which is when the seeds are left on the ground, they need to enter the full annual seasons in order to prepare them for planting. Then, in the third year of planting them in the soil, the seedlings begin to germinate and then grow and grow until they produce fruits.
  • Apricot fruits are usually grafted to accelerate their slow growth due to the lack of climatic conditions that help them remain on the tree without being infected with any diseases.
