How to grow watermelons

watermelon

It is a summer fruit whose leaves grow and extend, and its fruits - circular in shape - above the surface of the soil. Watermelon grows in the summer after a hundred days of planting, and it can be enjoyed by peeling it and eating it as it is or in the form of juice.

Watermelon consists of ninety percent water and ten percent sugar. It is considered one of the fruits that provides the body with energy and refreshment on hot summer days, and quenches the body and protects it from dehydration.

Watermelon cultivation

  • Good quality seeds must be chosen before planting them. You can dry any seeds of any type of watermelon that has a delicious taste, but the seeds must dry in the sun or in a dry place with good ventilation and be stored for the next planting season.
  • If the climate tends to be cold in the place where you want to plant watermelon, it is recommended to plant watermelon seeds in a pot inside the house for a month, then replant them outside.
  • Plow the land before planting the seeds and do not leave any clumps of mud, or remove any obstacles, because the seeds need good ventilation.
  • Plant the seeds in small hills that drain water better and are exposed to the heat of the sun for a longer period, because watermelon seeds need at least six hours of sun per day.
  • Place each three beans in a hole that is only three centimeters deep.
  • Leave a distance of one meter or more, unless the type of watermelon grown is small.
  • Spray a little natural insecticide to protect the plant from damage.
  • Cover the seeds with gauze or a cover that protects the seeds from insects and birds, and leave them until the flowers grow.
  • When flowers grow, they are somewhat different, because they must be pollinated in order for the fruit to grow, so bees and butterflies must be left undisturbed in order for them to carry out the process of pollinating the plant.
