Save the seed in a bag before planting

  • Put it in a plastic bag without closing it, and keep it in a dark place.
  • Examine the seed every four days, and make sure at the beginning that the tissue paper is still wet, and it is indicated that in the following weeks it will be noticed that the roots will appear, which will penetrate the seed and split it, as it should not be attempted to cut it by hand.
  • Planting the seed in the soil after the root reaches approximately eight centimeters in length, and it is indicated that if the root is longer, it can be cut using scissors sterilized with alcohol.

  • Cut the avocado from the middle, and carefully extract the seed from it.
  • Wash the seed well under lukewarm water, taking care not to use any kind of soap, and be careful not to remove the light brown seed cover, which would destroy the kernel and affect its growth.
  • Planting toothpicks in the kernel, by holding the pointed part of the kernel and directing it upwards, and then placing four sticks in the middle at equal distances to maintain the balance of the seed in the next stage.
  • Fill a cup with water, and place the seed on its surface, so that the toothpicks hold its edges, and the pointed surface is upwards, taking care that the seed is submerged up to 2,5 centimeters.
  • Place the cup in a moderately lit and well-lit place, and wait for the growth process to begin.
  • Change the water in the cup every day or two to get rid of mold and bacteria that may hinder the seed budding process.
  • Waiting for a period of two to three weeks, and the seed will be cracked, and the root will emerge from it.
  • Continue to water the seed, taking care not to scratch the root, until the seed sprouts from the top.
  • Choosing the right place to plant the seed, and it is usually preferable to plant it in a pot and change its location according to the temperature, which should range from 15,6 to 29,4 degrees Celsius.
  • Prepare the pot in which the avocado is to be grown, by filling it with a quantity of low-salt soil that allows the water to percolate, taking care to move away from the upper edge of the pot a distance of 2 centimeters, and it is recommended that the soil used be an equal mixture of coconut fibers and surface soil.
  • Remove the sticks from the seed, and bury the kernel in the soil, taking care that the upper half is above the surface, so that it does not rot under the soil.
  • Taking care of watering the plant almost daily to keep the soil moist.

Direct planting of avocado seed

It is possible to plant an avocado seed directly in the soil without the need to follow the previous steps, by following these steps:

  • Remove the seed from the fruit.

  • Place the seed in the hole, so that the flat side is down, and the pointy side is up.
