Cucumber cultivation method

Cucumber needs hot and humid weather, loose organic soil, and plenty of sunshine. When planting it, care must be taken to choose a place that has fertile and well-drained soil. Care must be taken to add compost and organic matter to the soil in a good amount, and to remove stones, sticks, and other debris. In it, cucumbers are planted in rows at a depth of approximately 2.5 cm, and it needs a large space; Because it is a climbing plant, it needs to be raised on a trellis or fence.

Cucumber needs a somewhat alkaline soil with a pH of 7, and care must be taken to space the plant when planting the climbing type at a distance of approximately 30 cm. The plant can also be sprayed with a solution of sugar and water to attract bees and increase fruit production.

Cucumber planting time

Cucumbers must be planted after the danger of frost has passed, and the soil temperature has risen, because frost may kill the plant and slow its growth. It can be planted indoors three or four weeks before the expected time of planting outside, and care must be taken not to harm the roots when moving it.

Water the cucumber plant

Care must be taken to provide the plant with plenty of water, especially at the time of its flowering and fruiting. Reducing irrigation during this period of rapid growth may lead to an increase in the bitter taste of the fruits, and it needs the soil to remain moist at all times. Therefore, it must be deeply irrigated once or twice during the week, and more so when planted in sandy soil. Attention must be paid to watering the plant slowly in the early morning or early evening, while avoiding water reaching the leaves to avoid leaf diseases that damage the plant.
