Where is Khorasan located?

Throughout history, the region of Khorasan was a very wide region in terms of geography. As it included various and wide parts of Afghanistan (the northwest), and Turkmenistan, in addition to present-day Khorasan (Khorasan Province).

In Khorasan there are many origins and races; On the land of Khorasan, there were Persians, Baluchis, and Pashtuns, in addition to the Turks in the north, and before Islam spread in this land, Khorasan was the center that embraced the Magi religion, especially in the region of Afghanistan (Balkh in particular), and when Islam settled in this region and spread there as well. In the rest of the different regions, the Khorasanis entered this new religion, and they followed the Shafi’i school of thought, and some of them were Hanafi, and all of them were from the people of the Sunnah and the community.

Khorasan provinces

Present-day Khorasan, which is located in northeastern Iran, was divided into three main sections (provinces), namely: North Khorasan, South Khorasan, and Razavi Khorasan, while North Khorasan is located in one of the thirty-one provinces in Iran, in which the Persians make up half of the population. Approximately (50%), while the Turkmen make up about a third of the population (30%), while the Kurds make up about five (20%). The capital of North Khorasan Province is Bojnurd, and there are many cities in it, including: Asfarin, Shirvan, Jajarm, Samlaqan, Manah, and Faruj. At a time when Birjand is the capital of South Khorasan. As for Razavi Khorasan, its capital is Mashhad, and the cultural center of this important Iranian province is the city of Nishapur. Its total area is estimated at about 120 thousand square kilometers, and its population is estimated at about six million.

From the foregoing, we conclude that Khorasan Province was divided into three provinces, as we mentioned, on the twenty-ninth of September. Among the most prominent cities in this country are Kashmar, Al-Janabi, Turbat Jam, Taybad, and many other cities. Thus, we have talked about this region, its important location, and its provinces, which had a prominent role in many fields.
