Components of narrative structure
The narrative structure has three basic components:
- the narrator: It is the party that has sufficient information about the narrated person, and all its elements, including an event, characters, time, and place, and is able to create harmony between them, weave them, and present them to the reader through a narrative structure that he chooses.
- Narrated: It is also called narrated, and the author has prior knowledge of it, so he works to present it in the best way.
- Narrated to him: He is the recipient or reader, and this element is always present in the mind of the author, and the author forms this narrative structure in response to the recipient.
Narrative structure analysis
When we break down the narrative structure into a group of elements, we get:
- Plot elements: In it, the characters and conflicts are identified, which the writer can highlight at the beginning of the literary work or in its exhibition, and within that, he lists the events, fluctuations, and surprises that occur in the events.
- Writer's approach This is in the organization of events and his style of narration. The writer can narrate events in a regular flow, or break their sequence by adding twists or sudden events that change the course of the text.
- Narration style: It shows the writer's ability to influence the structure of the narrative, and also his ability to attract the reader's attention and move between events and characters easily.
- The main ideas of a literary work It includes the ideas or messages that the writer conveys in the text, which the reader can discover or deduce while reading.
Types of narrative structure
Among the most important types of techniques used, which are classified according to their connection to the plot or the point of view of one of the characters, we mention among them:
