I don't sleep to dream
Poetry of the late great poet Mahmoud Darwish - Palestine
And you are confused as you read the next poem of his, whether he is writing about you, about him, or about another person, and you find that all souls have mixed to make an epic of reproach between two lovers, perhaps one of them or you may have thought like them, and if not, then there is no doubt at least that you have come across in Your life or heard of someone who lived like their story
I don't sleep to dream she said to him
Rather, I sleep to forget you. How good it is to sleep alone
No fuss in silk, away to see you
Alone there, you think of me when I forget you
Nothing hurts me in your absence
Neither the night scratches my chest nor your lips...
I sleep on my whole body completely
has no partner,
Your hands do not tear my dress, nor your feet
You knock on my heart like a gun when you close the door
I miss nothing in your absence:
give me gifts My secret. walk. my mole,
My hands and my legs. All in me
You have the desired images, so take them
To comfort your exile, and raise your visions as a toast
last. And say if you want: your desire is destruction.
As for me, I will listen to my body
Quietly the doctor: Nothing, nothing
