The scientific development that civilization is witnessing day after day has provided us with a great service in the field of security protection means, as the need for them has emerged to secure preventive protection, at the level of homes, vehicles, or specific areas, in order to prevent the entry of unwanted objects, which constitute a threat or a specific breach, Therefore, the use of alarm devices is considered one of the most important technical means used in this field.

There are several types of alarms, which differ according to their function and place of work, as follows:

  • Motion detectors used to prevent entry to a specific area.
  • Smoke or thermal detectors to prevent and confront fire.
  • Vehicle theft prevention, which works with motion and vibration detection sensors.
  • Chemical reagents used for industrial and military purposes.

Its main components

The alarm device, like any integrated system, consists of three main units that fall under input, control and processing, and output, as follows:

  • Receptors and sensors: they are the detectors that receive and analyze the signal of the prohibited object, or the prohibited substance; into the processing unit.
  • Signal processing unit: It analyzes the signal received by the detectors, and decides whether or not there is an alert for an alarm. This is based on the existing readings, which were programmed in advance by the system user, and directing the alarm to the output unit.
  • Alert unit: It is the one that translates the signal of the signal processor into an alarm in the form of a specific alert, such as: issuing a sound through an alarm bell, or lighting a flash through a special lighting panel.

The working principle of a simple alarm

  • Alarms differ in terms of simplicity and complexity, based on the types of sensors used, the forms of alarms and the alerts resulting from them. As this follows different control procedures depending on their type, and in our example, we will look at how simple alarms work:
  • The receivers, represented by sensors, sense each of: the smoke material, the thermal quantity, the strength of the vibrations, or the movement from its external surroundings, and translate them in the form of electrical signals.
  • The electrical signals are transmitted to the main control panel of the alarm system.
  • The control panel analyzes those electrical signals into digital readings, through which it is known whether or not there is an alarm in the perimeter; And in varying proportions according to the degree of sensitivity on which the system operates.
  • The alarm command is sent to the notification device; This is when there is sufficient reading to announce the presence of an alarm alert.
  • The notification device translates these electrical signals into audible audio signals, or in the form of visual light signals, or vibrations that give orders for movement, or the operation of a specific device linked to the alarm device.
