A topic expressing the virtue of your parents and your duty towards them

Righteousness to parents

There is no doubt that honoring parents is one of the most important obligations and one of the greatest duties, and God Almighty has mentioned that in many places. He said in His Noble Book: (And your Lord has decreed that you should worship none but Him and to be good to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age with you, do not say to them a word of Rebuke them and speak to them a noble word, and lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was little.”This is a clear reference to urging Muslims to obey their parents, be kind to them, and honor them.

Among the virtues of honoring one’s parents and prioritizing it over the greatest obedience, which is jihad for the sake of God Almighty, is the saying of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he was asked about the deeds most beloved to God Almighty, when Abdullah bin Masoud - may God be pleased with him - asked him, and he said: (Which deeds are most beloved to God Almighty? He said: Prayer at its proper time. I said: Then what? He said: Then honoring one’s parents. Then I said: Then what? He said: Jihad in the path of God Almighty. If I had taken more of it, it would have increased for me.).

Parental preference

Everyone knows the fatigue and depression that mothers suffer from; She carries her son in her womb for nine months. Her pregnancy period may begin with nausea, a lack of energy, and a feeling of dizziness, and the more days and months she has with her baby in her womb, the more that extra weight weighing on her will increase, making her extremely tired, painful, and exhausted in a place, and her fetus will slow down her movement, causing her back pain. Her feet, shoulders, and the rest of her body, and it may cause her to suffer from some diseases, including varicose veins, gestational diabetes, and many other diseases and pains.

However, after the mother gives birth to her fetus, she receives him as a caring and loving mother would. Seeing his features, she forgets all the hardships she suffered during her pregnancy. So she gives him her care and attention, even if it is at the expense of her health, so she sees it as a lack of sleep, depriving herself of her time of rest and solitude, so that she can wake up at night and take care of him, provide him with food and drink, and take care of his cleanliness and clothing, all of this with open-mindedness, and with all dedication and sincerity, until he grows up. She makes sure, from a young age, to teach him good morals, always direct him to what is right, and prevent harm from him as much as possible. No matter what we talk about here, we will not deny the mother her right, as her duty towards the children is great, nothing greater or greater than the role of the mother in raising and raising the children! Whoever thinks that her work is easy is wrong, as no one realizes the value and greatness of a mother, and her touch in anything in his life except for the one who lost his mother, and then he feels the pain of distance, abandonment, and lack of attention, no matter how much family, lovers, and friends gather around him. Nothing equals her love, giving, warmth, and the reassurance that she brings. Her children feel it.

The greatness of the mother’s virtue, and the greatness of her kindness to her, was mentioned in what was narrated by Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, where he said: (A man came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and said: Who is the most deserving of my good companions? He said: Your mother. He said: Then who? He said: Then your mother. He said: Then who? He said: Then your mother. He said: Then From whom? He said: Then your father. And in the hadith of Qutaibah: Who has more right to the goodness of my companions? And he did not mention the people.).

Regarding the father’s virtue, no one can deny the extremely influential role he has in raising the children. His work for a long time and his absence from his home - his stable and comfort - is only to provide money for the children. This is to provide for their needs and everything they need, and to provide them with a decent means of living, even if the effect of this is evident in the wrinkles on his facial features, and the scars of hard work imprinted on the veins of his hands and the effects of sunburn on his skin. We should also not ignore his great role in raising children and correcting them, with the support of the mother, and with all familiarity and love. The father and mother are the only ones who strive to see their children live a better life than their own, hoping for their reward from God Almighty.

The duty of children towards parents

Islam calls for parental care; Especially in the stage of old age, which is considered one of the weakest and most sensitive stages that a person goes through, as God Almighty forbade abusing them, and considered this a great sin for which a person will be held accountable in this world and the hereafter, even if the abuse is verbal. By saying, “Awful,” or other hateful words, or even mistreatment, and honoring one’s parents does not only occur during their lives, but rather honoring them in Islam extends even after their death, through ongoing charity on behalf of their souls, praying for mercy for them, and performing the rituals of Hajj and Umrah on their behalf.
