Location of the Sea of Galilee
Lake Tiberias is located in northern Palestine, and is surrounded by plateaus on all sides. Mount Erbil is located to the west of it, and to the east of it lies the Golan Heights, which is part of the state of Syria and occupied by Israel. To the south of it begins the valley that separates it from Lake Tiberias by a chain. From the narrow hills through which the Jordan River flows, Lake Tiberias is the second lowest lake in the world after the Dead Sea. It is a freshwater lake that loses much of its water through the process of evaporation. It is also known as the Sea of Galilee, and the Jordan River is its main feeder. Although there are many mineral springs that feed it as well.

The area of Lake Kinneret is 166 square kilometers, and its average depth is 25.6 meters, and its maximum depth is 48 meters in the northeastern part of it. The lake extends 21 kilometers from north to south, and 11 kilometers from east to west, and is similar in shape to the shape of a pear or pear. Its circumference is 55 kilometers, and it is 210 meters below sea level. Its surrounding cities include: Tiberias, Corazim, Capernaum, Tabgha, and Al-Kursi, and it contributes to the unique cultural authenticity of the region.

The absence of freezing temperatures has facilitated the cultivation of bananas, dates, citrus fruits, and vegetables in it. The summer is hot and the average temperature is 31°C.
