There were many civilizations that arose in the areas surrounding the Dead Sea, and they called it different names. The Greeks called it the “Dead Sea” because there were no signs of life in it, the Romans called it the “Asphalt Sea”, and the Jews called it the “Salt Sea”, while we Muslims call it “Lake Lot” because it is the lake that God Almighty destroyed the people of Lot. with it, and made the lower part of it high as a result of their refusal from the Islamic religion and their obscene committing.

  • Due to the low content of the Dead Sea region, the humidity is very high, and the temperature is high, which increases the body's ability to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time and cure many diseases. The air of the region has an abundance of oxygen, which makes it healthier than others.
  • Since the Dead Sea water contains many salts and minerals such as magnesium and calcium, when bathing in it, it cures many skin diseases such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and joint and bone diseases.
  • Black volcanic Dead Sea mud is used in the treatment of many skin diseases. It is rich in elements and minerals, the most important of which are silicon and halogen. It also helps in improving the skin, so many cosmetics and skin care products are made from it.

The economic importance of the Dead Sea

  • Due to the therapeutic importance of the Dead Sea, many hotels and resorts have been built on its outskirts, with the aim of providing luxury services to tourists. The Dead Sea annually attracts huge numbers of tourists who visit it for treatment or for enjoyment and relaxation.
