Where the capital, Papeete, is located, it is called Big Tahiti or Tahiti Nui, and the largest part of the island's population is located there, and the second part, which is the smallest, is located in the southeastern side of the island, which is Little Tahiti or Taiarapu. Along the coast, there are areas of fertile land, and most of the island’s population lives there, while the rest of the island is considered an uninhabited mountainous area. The island is surrounded by many broken coral reefs, and a lot of rain falls, which leads to the formation of fast-flowing waterfalls and streams, and grows in them. Banana and orange trees, as well as coconut and pawpaw trees. Tourism is the country's main economic source, and most of the population works in this sector. Most Chinese people work in trade, and they control this sector while the rest of the population works in fishing and agriculture.

Historically, it is considered that the first inhabitants of the island of Tahiti were Polynesians who came as immigrants from Asia several hundred years ago. Later, a British sailor, Naval Commander Samuel Wells, came. He was the first man from Europe to come to the island, and he declared this island to belong to the British Kingdom. Later, in a very short period, a French sailor named Louis Antoine de Boucanville came to the island and declared that it had become part of the Kingdom. For France, it became a French protectorate and colony, and later the islands of French Polynesia were declared part of French territory. Despite the emergence of many movements demanding independence from the authority of France, most of the residents of the island of Tahiti believe that it is better to remain under French rule, and they desire that.
