Snoring is defined as the loud, hoarse sound of the sleeper's breathing, and is linked to many reasons such as not sleeping in good posture, suffering from respiratory diseases, or deep sleep due to fatigue and exhaustion. Snoring is therefore considered a real problem, causing inconvenience and problems for many people. Therefore, it is necessary to get rid of it by following some solutions and methods to help in this, or by using some natural recipes that reduce its severity.

 

Causes of snoring

  • Age: As one gets older, the larynx becomes more and more narrow.
  • Congenital causes: such as a narrow larynx. A man’s larynx is narrower than a woman’s, so snoring in men is more common.
  • Diseases of the nose and throat: which lead to the closure of the respiratory tract, causing airway obstruction.
  • Weight gain: This leads to sagging of the muscles in the roof of the mouth.
  • Smoking and tranquilizers: They cause muscle relaxation.
  • Sleeping position: especially on the back, which blocks the airway.

Snoring may require seeing a doctor to solve the problem, and many people think that snoring is not a serious matter that requires visiting a doctor if it occurs or if it appears initially in people, but British studies have indicated that there is a close relationship between those who suffer from snoring and that they have high blood pressure. Follow the following methods to treat snoring:

  • Change sleeping position: Sleeping on the back is one of the positions that increases the problem of snoring, as it causes the tongue and roof of the mouth to fold into the back wall of the throat. Sleeping on one side prevents this from happening, and a pillow can be used to support the back, as it helps in sleeping on the side, or by bending the bed with Raising the head up, this helps open the nasal airways and reduce snoring.
  • Getting rid of excess weight: The accumulation of fat around the neck area puts pressure on the throat from the inside, which exposes it to compression during sleep and thus causes snoring, but this is not the case for everyone.
  • Get enough rest and practice healthy sleep habits: Sleeping incorrectly reduces the relaxation of the muscles at the back of the throat, and working for long hours without rest causes deep sleep and thus increases muscle flexibility, which in turn causes snoring.
  • Getting rid of blockage of the respiratory passages in the nose: Many people are exposed to colds or for some other reason, which causes narrowing of the respiratory passages, and the entry of quiet in small quantities, which causes snoring. Taking a warm bath before bed helps in opening a blocked nose, and the water should be warm, not hot. It is also preferable to take a bottle with water in it. Salty water, and rinsing the nose with it during the shower to help with this, or by putting drops of it in the nose.
  • Change and clean pillows and covers regularly: Being allergic to dust and dirt stuck on covers and pillows can lead to snoring. Therefore, it is necessary to place the pillows for at least two hours under the sunlight on a weekly basis, and replace them every six months to reduce allergens.
  • Drink more water: Not drinking water constantly makes the secretions in the roof of the nose and throat more viscous, which in turn causes snoring. A man needs approximately sixteen cups, and a woman needs eleven cups.
