Types of edible mushrooms

There are several types of mushrooms that can be eaten, and they are beneficial nutritionally and medicinally, as they contain a high percentage of proteins, in addition to a group of antioxidants, vitamins such as vitamin D, and minerals such as iron, zinc, and manganese. They are also poor in calories, and mushrooms are widespread. It is widely used in pizza recipes, vegetable soups, and sauces added to meat, and the most important edible types are:

  • Bouton: It is also called French champignon. It is distinguished by its white color, its spherical top, and its lower part is short. It is the most produced mushroom in the world, as there are many farms for it. It needs special conditions for its growth, such as regulating temperature and maintaining... A certain humidity level, which requires advanced technological methods that cost money.
  • Oyster: It is a white mushroom, but its shape is irregular, like a button. This type lives in tropical and tropical regions, and is widespread in Africa, but it is also cultivated in Europe.
  • Volvarella, or Chinese mushroom: It is widespread in China and the rest of the countries of Southeast Asia, and is distinguished by its thin, curved funnel. It is not stuffed as in the button, and the leg-like part of it is long and thin.
  • Tricoloma matsutake mushroom: This mushroom lives in the form of colonies. Its lower part is short and thick, and its top is large and flat. It is a wild mushroom. Its native habitat is China. It often lives in pine forests. The people of China prefer it and eat it fresh or after drying it.
  • Honey mushroom: a small mushroom, its color tends to be brown, its lower part is long and thin, its top is small and not stuffed, and the brown color is concentrated in its middle. It has a distinct flavor from other types of breakfast and is often used in preparing pasta sauces. It lives in dense forests, and has a distinctive smell similar to The smell of honey.
  • Puff mushrooms: They live in meadows and forests. They grow in late summer and early fall. They are large in size compared to other types of mushrooms, with their diameter ranging between ten and seventy centimeters, and sometimes up to one hundred and twenty centimetres. They weigh twenty kilograms, and their maturity can be distinguished by their color. It is white before maturity, and greenish-brown after maturity, and can be used in cooking and medicine.
  • Oyster mushroom: This type is characterized by its ease of production. It can be raised on sawdust, and thus it constitutes a source of protein in poor countries. It is called this because it resembles the body of an oyster. It grows sideways and tastes like anise. Its diameter ranges between five and twenty-five centimeters. But it looks very similar to the ghost mushroom, a poisonous mushroom that lives in Japan and parts of Australia.
