Treatment of simple cerebral atrophy in children

Brain atrophy

Cerebral atrophy is the loss of brain cells and some damage to them. It can occur due to many brain diseases, such as some injuries that occur to it, or infections. This atrophy may affect anyone, whether old or young, and in the case of children. In children, the condition may be simple and mild, and it can be treated more easily and effectively because the disease is still in its infancy.

Treatment of simple cerebral atrophy in children

  • Physical therapy to improve brain function and its ability to perform daily activities.
  • Obtain counseling and psychological support from the family and personal doctor.
  • Take medications and get appropriate treatment from a specialist doctor.

Factors that increase the risk of atrophy

There are some factors that may increase the risk of developing brain atrophy, but this does not mean that anyone with one of these factors is at risk of developing it. These factors include:

  • Getting older.
  • Brain injury resulting from an accident.
  • A family history of certain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, or some similar neurological disorders.
  • Family history of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Preventing brain atrophy

Brain atrophy is a disease that cannot be prevented in most cases, but following a healthy lifestyle may help a person slow the progression of atrophy and may reduce the severity of the symptoms that accompany it. Some of the factors that may reduce the chances of developing it are:

  • Control blood pressure and try to keep it within its normal range without any increase or decrease.
  • Eat healthy and balanced foods, especially those that contain important nutrients for the human body, such as fiber, protein, vitamins, and others.
  • A person's attempt to remain mentally, physically, and socially active, so that his brain remains in constant motion.
