Surah Al-Kahf is one of the Qur’anic surahs that were revealed in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and what distinguishes it is that it was revealed in full as it was reported on the authority of the Companions, may God be pleased with them. Surahs in which several prophetic hadiths are mentioned indicate their virtue and status; Including: The Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf as it was revealed, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection from his station to Mecca, and whoever reads ten verses from the last of it, then the Dajjal emerges, he will not be empowered)I also mentioned that the message of Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, is a revelation from God Almighty, and in the last verse of Surat Al-Kahf, the speech in it was general for all people, and among the purposes mentioned in Surat Al-Kahf are the following:

  • Describing the Holy Quran as valuable; Where truth resides and falsehood perishes.
  • The statement of sincerity in faith and belief, which was mentioned in the story of the People of the Cave.
  • Resurrection on the Day of Resurrection is an established fact.
  • A statement of the reward of both the believer and the unbeliever on the Day of Resurrection.
  • Mentioning the threat of the unbelievers who have taken allies instead of God Almighty, and explaining the reward that God Almighty has prepared for them.
  • Balance between the state of the unbelievers and the state of the believers who believe in God Almighty and do righteous deeds.

The story of Dhul-Qarnain

Dhu al-Qarnayn is a righteous man who was mentioned by God - the Almighty - in the Holy Qur'an, and described him as a just king, so he was a supportive and just ruler, the king of the East and the West. God Almighty said: (And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, I will recite to you a remembrance of him. * Indeed, We established him in the earth, and We gave him a means of everything.)He embraced Islam at the hands of the Prophet of God, Abraham, peace be upon him, and circumambulated the honorable Kaaba with Abraham and Ismail, peace be upon them both. Until Quraysh asked the Jews about something to test the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Jews told them to ask him about a man who was known to have roamed the earth, and about a group of boys who went out and nothing was known about them. The Cave, and he made that a clear and evident statement, and God Almighty mentioned that He knows everything that Dhul-Qarnain passes through and guards and preserves it, in addition to that he was granted and given a great king, to fulfill the great tasks that were assigned to him, so he used to take food and supplies for one region to help him in another region, until He reached a place that no one could reach, and he stood at the edge of the sea and saw the sun in his sight that it was emerging from the sea and setting in it, so God Almighty gave him the power to rule that region, empowered him with them, and made him the choice among them. If he wanted, he would kill as many of them as he wanted, and take as many captives as he wanted, and he could ransom them as he wanted.

Dhu al-Qarnayn chose to recompense the wrongdoers, and that is from his justice and fairness among the people, then he returned from Morocco to the East, and on his way back he saw people who had no homes to protect them from the heat of the sun, so he passed by a non-Arab people who told him that there were two tribes who encroached on them in a very large way, and they spoiled their country for them. And they cut off their roads, so they offered him the tax in return for setting up a barrier to prevent the oppression of the two tribes and their oppression from them, but he refused to take the money, and was satisfied with the money that God Almighty bestowed upon him, and asked them to help him build the barrier with their efforts and machines, and the barrier was built of molten iron and copper, but they could not Reaching it by stairs or by any other means, and that was from the mercy of God Almighty to His servants, to prevent injustice and tyranny from the oppressed among the servants, and God Almighty told that the barrier will be destroyed at the end of time, and become the same level as the ground, where he said: (He said this is a mercy from my Lord, so when the promise of my Lord came, He made it dull, and the promise of my Lord was true.).
