The phenomenon of splitting the moon

Miracles of the prophets

A miracle is defined as something extraordinary that God Almighty performs at the hands of the Prophets, peace be upon them, to be evidence of the truth of their prophecy. The miracles of the Prophets are divided into sensory miracles that are seen with the eye. Such as the transformation of a stick into a snake, the emergence of a camel from the rock, the speech of inanimate objects, and moral miracles that can be discovered through insight, such as the Holy Qur’an, for example.

Splitting of the moon

The infidels’ request for miracles was out of controversy and hypocrisy, and an attempt to hinder the path of the Islamic call, and was not motivated by the desire for conviction and faith, since if they wanted to be convinced, it would suffice for them to think about the miracles of the Holy Qur’an. God Almighty challenged them to produce something like it, but they were unable. Then He challenged them to produce ten. A surah like it, in confirmation of the Almighty’s saying: (Or do they say, “He fabricated it?” Say, “Then produce ten forged Surahs like it, and call upon whomever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.”)Rather, he challenged them with something easier than that, as God Almighty said: (Or do they say, “He fabricated it?” Say, “Then produce a surah like it, and call upon whomever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.”)But they were unable to oppose the Holy Qur’an, and despite that, they demanded other miracles out of controversy and hypocrisy, as they asked the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - to split the moon as a sign and sign of the truth of his prophecy, so God Almighty supported him with the miracle of the moon splitting.

Where the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - pointed to the moon with his hand and it split into two halves. The splitting of the moon was proven in the Holy Qur’an in Surah Al-Qamar, and the companions who witnessed the event narrated many hadiths that confirm that news, including what was narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud - may God be pleased with him. About him - he said: (The moon was split into two parts during the time of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: Bear witness.)And what was narrated on the authority of Anas bin Malik - may God be pleased with him - that he said: (The people of Mecca asked the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, to show them a sign, and he showed them the splitting of the moon.)Despite this, the infidels of Quraish did not believe, and they said: “Muhammad has bewitched you!” While the realists among them held that it was necessary to ask those coming from the journey, because if what happened was magic, it would affect those close to it, and not those far away. When the travelers returned, the infidels of Quraysh asked them, and they told them that they had seen the moon split on the same night, and at the same time in which they had seen it split. The moon, but despite that, the infidels contradicted themselves and said that this is continuous magic.

The scientific miracle of the splitting of the moon

One of the scholars in the field of scientific miracles, Dr. Zaghloul Al-Najjar, was asked if it is in the words of God Almighty: (The Hour has approached and the moon has been split open)A scientific miracle. He replied, denying that there was any scientific miracle in the noble verse, and he justified that by saying that a scientific miracle can be explained by science. As for miracles, science cannot explain them, because they are outside the scope of science, such as if a person enters fire and does not burn, or the sea is struck with a stick and it splits into two parts. Or the mountain splits and a camel emerges from it, or a person holds a stick and it turns into a snake. All of this is supernatural, and science cannot explain it. Likewise, the splitting of the moon, which was one of the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and evidence of the truth of his prophecy.

Miracles of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him

God Almighty supported Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, with many physical miracles in addition to the eternal miracle, which is the Holy Qur’an, in accordance with the words of God Almighty: (Say, “If mankind and the jinn gathered together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they would not produce the like of it, even if one of them were helpers of one another.”)Among the miracles of the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - was the healing of the sick with his brilliance, as happened with Ali bin Abi Talib, may God honor his face, and the peace of stones and trees upon him in many situations, and the abundance of food and drink, as happened in the story of Jabir bin Abdullah - may God be pleased with him - When the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - fed hundreds of people from one pot, and water came out from between his fingers, and the event of the Night Journey and Mi’raj, and one of his greatest miracles - peace and blessings be upon him - was the splitting of the moon, and this miracle was indicated by the words of God Almighty: (The Hour has drawn near and the moon has been split. And if they see a sign, they will turn away and say, “Continuous magic.”).
