The largest oil well in the world

Ghawar field

The Ghawar field is considered the largest oil field in the world, and it produces more than half of the oil production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Production in this field began in 1951, and its production reached its peak in 1981 to 5.7 million barrels per day, and this amount is considered the highest sustainable production rate. Oil is produced by every oil field in world history.

Details about the Ghawar field

The Ghawar field is located one hundred kilometers southwest of Dhahran in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is the largest oil field in the world in terms of production and oil reserves. It contains more than a quarter of the total oil reserves in Saudi Arabia, and this giant field is owned by Saudi Aramco, which is owned by the government, and is also in charge of its management. The length of this field is 280 kilometers and its width reaches 40 kilometers, and it is located on an area of 5260 million km100 in the eastern part of the Rub al-Khali desert along the coast of the Western Gulf. As for the main reservoir of the Ghawar field, it is about 2,100 meters thick and XNUMX meters deep below the surface of the earth.

Discovery of the Ghawar field

The Ghawar field was discovered in 1948 AD, and it produces an amount of 55 billion barrels of oil per day at this time, and the amount of oil reserves in it is about 120 billion barrels. It is worth noting here that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia contains the second largest oil reserve in the world, and the Ghawar field consists of five areas. For development, they are: Haradh, Ain Dar, Al-Hawiyah, Al-Uthmaniyah, and Shedqum. The first well, Ain Dar 1, was discovered in 1948 AD, and production was made from it in early 1951 AD at a rate of 15,600 barrels of oil on a daily basis.
