Lake Wan

Lake Van is known as the largest lake in Turkey, which is famous for its salinity, but it is considered a tourist lake. It is visited by visitors from all parts of the country, due to its wide fame and its richness in landscapes, where the salinity did not affect the land surrounding it, so it was truly a lake of magic and beauty, where ships are used to cross its waters to transport tourists to the islands in it.

Lake Wan is pronounced by another name, Lake Akhlat, and according to the Turkish language it is known as Van Gölü, except that it was known in the past as Lake Argesh, and it was mentioned in Ibn Asaker’s book in Lake Azgeesh.

Location and space

Lake Van is located in the Asian continent, and it is one of the lakes belonging to the Republic of Turkey, and is located specifically in the far eastern region of Anatolia. The total area of ​​Lake One is estimated at twelve thousand and five hundred square kilometers, while its depth reaches one hundred and seventy-four meters in its middle section.

Island history

A group of thirty-six scientists, belonging to twelve different countries, confirmed through their study and research of Lake One, which lasted for eleven years under the name (Polio-One Research Project), that the age of this lake is six hundred thousand years, despite the fact that the previous results It showed that it is four hundred thousand years old, and the aim of this research was to find out the causes of global warming that afflicted the lake to turn it into a salty lake, and the changes and weather factors that affected it.

It was confirmed that its large area was formed by the eruption of the Nimrud volcano, and due to the presence of volcanic mountains that surround this lake, the team of scientists confirmed that this lake was affected by more than six hundred erupting volcanoes and several earthquakes.

Bahrah One contains a number of small islands, which are:

  • Akdamar Island, which is the largest island; As its length is estimated at one and a half kilometers, and its area is estimated at five hundred meters, and the historical archaeological church of Agmaar is located on this island.
  • Çarpanak Island.
  • Adır Island.
  • KuşAdası Island.

Several Turkish cities overlook this lake, but the city closest to it is the one that bears its name, Van, as it is only five kilometers from the lake to the east of it, and there is also the city of Khalat. In this lake there is a port that enjoys a well-known reputation, and therefore tourism is active in it, and the Gulf in it contributes to attracting visitors to it, not to mention the coasts that surround it, and the peninsulas in it.
