How to remove oil stains from clothes

baby powder

The use of baby powder to remove oil stains can be summarized in the following points:

  • Remove excess oils or grease from an item of clothing using a paper towel, taking care to keep the dirty item of clothing away from other clothing.
  • Cover the oil stain with a sufficient amount of baby powder to cover it completely. If baby powder is not available, other absorbent materials can be used, such as salt or cornstarch.
  • Gently scrape the baby powder off the clothes using a paper towel or spoon, taking care not to spread the stain to other parts of the clothes.
  • Mix an amount of water with drops of dishwashing liquid in a bowl, then put this mixture on the stain with your thumb, and rub it gently until a slight foam forms.
  • Scrub the stain with an old toothbrush in circular motions, making sure that the cleaning liquid penetrates to the other side of the clothing.
  • Place the item of clothing in the washing machine, following the washing instructions on the clothing label, then dry the item in the open air.

White chalk

The method for removing oil stains from clothes using chalk is summarized in the following points:

  • Dry the oil stain as much as possible with a paper towel or a piece of clean cloth.
  • Rub the stain with white chalk well, rubbing the center of the stain in a circular motion towards the edges until the stain is completely covered with chalk, and use liquid dish detergent to wash the oil stain if chalk is not available.
  • Use talcum powder or baking soda as an alternative to chalk to remove the stain.
