How to remove gum from clothes

Frankincense is characterized by its soft and sticky texture with easy adhesion to fabrics and clothes of all types of tissue. It is difficult to overcome the strength of gum sticking to these tissues and get rid of it once it is removed from it, as this may cause tearing of the tissue area covered by the frankincense, and pressure on it while trying to remove it It will increase its adhesion to the cloth, and as for removing it, gum needs special methods to occur successfully, without harming or destroying the fabric tissues, and the following are some of the methods used to achieve this.

Freezing

Exposing frankincense to very low temperatures helps to freeze it and transform its texture from soft and sticky to hard and cohesive, which makes it easy to remove, through:

  • Fold the piece of clothing, and make the gum visible on the top of the folds, taking care not to touch any other area of the clothes during the fold so that it does not stick to it as well.
  • Put the piece of clothing in a clean chest, and leave it in the freezer for a few hours until the gum is completely frozen.
  • Remove the piece of clothing from the freezer, while trying to remove the gum from it with the tip of a spoon or a thin metal, being careful not to tear the clothes.
  • If traces of gum remain on the clothes, leave ice cubes on them for a few minutes, while trying to remove them in the same way as before.

high heat

The high temperature helps to break down the adhesion forces between the gum particles, and to facilitate its removal from clothes, by following one of the following two methods:

  • Boiling, by boiling a piece of clothing that contains frankincense at high temperatures, until the frankincense dissolves completely, then remove the frankincense from the clothes, and scrub the rest of it with a toothbrush until it is completely gone, taking into account not to follow this method with clothes that are damaged by the high water temperature, such as wool and silk.
  • Water vapor. This method is more suitable for woolen and silk clothes to prevent damage to their fabrics, by letting the water boil at a high temperature, and exposing the place where the frankincense is located to water vapor for some time until it softens and dissolves, then remove it and gently rub it with a toothbrush until it is completely gone.

Alcohol
