How is it manufactured, and what are the rules followed when using it?

Hairspray (gel): A gel substance that is neither solid nor liquid, closer to waxy, that individuals use to help style hair in the desired way and shape. It is composed of several chemicals and powders that help dry hair and maintain its shine throughout the day.

In this article, we will focus on the materials that make up the gel and the mechanism of its manufacture, the rules followed when using it, and the damages resulting from its use, passing through a simple tour between it and other preparations used for hair, and we will try to compare between them. Taking care of the beauty and health of hair is one of the most important things that must be done in life.

The materials that make up the gel

The gel consists of a group of chemicals united together to form the gel preparation, and these materials differ, some of which are bases, some are compounds, and each of them depends on the materials that stimulate it to activate, and these materials are:

  1. Carbopol: A catalyst acid is added to carbopol, and it is heated at a temperature ranging from 50 to 60 °C, so it quickly turns into a gel, and there are two types of dusty ones used in the formation of an opaque gel, and non-dusty ones used in preparing a transparent gel.
  2. Triethanolamine: This type is specially used to obtain a non-solid material, as it is characterized by its low baseness and very high solubility.
  3. B-V-B: It is a substance as close as possible to sugar. It is an adhesive that needs a solvent. It is used to give stability to the hair. The higher its percentage in the gel, the faster the drying speed.
  4. Ethanol: It is the proven substance for “B-V-B”, as it is extracted from natural and industrial sources, and it is forbidden to overdo it so that it does not lead to skin diseases such as peeling, for example.
  5. Glycerin: It is a moisturizing and nourishing substance for hair strands, and helps prevent sediment formation on the hair.
  6. Vitamins: It gives good nourishment to the hair scalp and gives it vitality.
  7. Color and scent: Some specialists may use transparent dyes for the gel, and there are those who add a subtle scent that lasts as the gel dries, but it is not an essential component of the lotion.

Method and mechanism of preparation

Bring a sample of water in a container of one liter. Distribute a liter of water in two containers, add 15 gm of “carboble” to the first container and leave it without stirring it with the water, and add 30 to 40 gm of “B-VB” to the second container, knowing that this substance is the most expensive material. In the case of dilution, the consistency of the gel with the hair decreases, and in the case of excess, it gives more cohesion. Now leave the two containers for a full day. After 24 hours, prepare the first container and add 20 g of “triethanolamine” to it, and start stirring, and the water and the gel will gradually turn into a gel. Add the second bowl to the first bowl and continue the stirring process very well, ensuring that the powders mix together. We add the appropriate color and scent to the person's desire, at an amount of 5 gm each, and then stir well. You have to add the preservative, and it ranges in certain proportions from 5 g to 15 g, depending on the type of additive, and one of the most popular preservatives used in the formation of the gel is “sodium benzoate” and it is added in an amount of 5 g to one liter of water.

Natural gel and how to prepare it

And speaking of preparing the gel and the mechanism of its manufacture, we must learn about how to prepare and manufacture the natural gel or the one closest to the healthy one that does not harm the hair, and it is a type of lotion that does not use chemicals in its components, and it is prepared from materials extracted from nature, and it is prepared as follows:

the required materials

2 cups of water, half a teaspoon of honey, a third of a cup of flaxseeds, five drops of clove oil, five drops of scented oil, and the preservative is a third of a cup of citric acid.

How to prepare

  1. Put the golden flaxseeds in the water and leave them for 24 hours.
  2. Switch the water in which the seeds were soaked, then put them and heat them on the fire.
  3. Stirring slightly until the liquid reaches a boil, and the process is continued over low heat to reach a gelatinous liquid.
  4. When the seeds float to the surface of the water, we turn off the heat and transfer the gelatinous liquid to another container.
  5. After the liquid cools down, add honey, oils and preservative to it.
  6. The liquid is stirred and the materials are mixed well, to ensure that a material free of impurities and agglomerates is obtained.
  7. The gel is kept in the refrigerator and is valid for two weeks of use. You can put it in the freezer if a large amount of the gel is prepared.

Rules that must be followed when using the gel

  1. Choosing the most suitable type of gel; Each type of hair has its own gel, and it is not advisable to use any type of gel, as there are many varieties, so care must be taken in choosing to preserve the integrity of the hair.
  2. Washing hair excellently with soap and water, then we dry the hair using your own towel, to get wet hair.
  3. Put an appropriate amount of gel on your hand and rub it well, then apply it to the hair, taking into account that the gel has reached all areas of the hair in the head, and be careful not to let the gel reach the scalp, as it may damage the hair.
  4. Use a comb and style the hair as desired, and leave it for a short period of time to dry.
  5. Avoid exposure to dust and dirt areas if the gel has not dried, so that it does not stick to the hair.
  6. Washing hair daily before going to sleep, and not leaving the gel for the next day, as this leads to breaking hair cells and suffocating the breathing pores of the scalp.

Damage caused by the gel

  • Hair loss: The use of the gel leads to heavy hair loss, especially brittle hair, as it breaks down the hair cells and thus causes them to fall out.
  • Frizzy hair: The gel damages the hair in the long term, as the frequent use of the gel for a long period of time weakens the hair, which may cause it to bend and wrinkle, a problem that may lead to allergic reactions in some people.
  • Scalp weakness: The gel may lead to a problem in hair growth due to suffocation of the breathing pores of the scalp cells, and this is one of the problems that are difficult to find solutions to.
  • Baldness: Excessive use of the gel in some cases leads to massive hair loss and weakness in the scalp, leading to what is called baldness, which is the fall of hair from the scalp with the inability to grow again, due to cell death.

That is why we can say that everything has its benefits and harms, and not all preparations are beneficial to the body, even if the percentage of harm they cause to the body is greater than the desired benefit from them, but necessity has provisions, and therefore also not all products are harmful. Dermatological and cancerous as a result of excessive chemicals, all these preparations should be dealt with according to medical prescriptions and good guidelines.
