How to harvest dates

How to harvest dates

The palm tree grows one meter every year, and despite attempts to avoid climbing and harvest dates by shaking the trunk, climbing is still the solution. The palm tree must be climbed and reached the top to harvest dates. This process requires the use of experienced workers, or Purchase mechanical devices to lift workers to the top of the palm, use aluminum ladders, or attach ladders to the palm permanently.

Stages of harvesting dates

Interstitial stage

In the khalal stage, the fruits are harvested when they become large in size and change their color to yellow, red, or orange, depending on the type. Fruits in the khalal stage are exposed to damage quickly, so they are marketed directly to the local consumer or stored in refrigerators for export to the foreign consumer. One of the most important benefits of harvesting dates at this stage is the following:

  • The cell is free from insect infestation most of the time.
  • Avoid damage in areas with heavy rain and high humidity.
  • The fruits are easy to clean due to their hardness, consistency and softness.

Wet stage

In the rutab stage, fruits are harvested when they begin to soften from the bottom of the fruit and become soft. In some areas, it is preferable to dry the rutab in a natural or unnatural way, and then store it and sell it to the consumer.
