Al-Razi is the author of the book Al-Hawi in the Abbasid era, and he is Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Zakariya Al-Razi, who was born in the Al-Ray region located near Tehran, and moved to Iraq in order to seek knowledge. He also worked in many jobs, and worked as a physician for Al-Mansur bin Noah Al-Samani, and it was said that he was my uncle at the end of his life, and he died in the city of Baghdad And the year of his death differed, as there are those who said that he died in the year 320 AH.

  • He laid the foundations for experimental medicine on animals, as he used to test some drugs on monkeys, and if their efficiency was proven, he would try them on humans.
  • He invented sutures, the first to do so, as he created them from the intestines of cats.
  • He made mercury ointments, and he was the first to do so.
  • The first to differentiate between venous bleeding and arterial bleeding, and use finger pressure to stop venous bleeding, and ligation to stop arterial bleeding, and this is what doctors use at the present time.
  • He described the process of extracting water from the eyes, and he was the first to do so.
  • He is the first to use opium to treat dry cough.
  • He introduced laxatives into the pharmacy, and he was the first to do so.
  • Consider fever a symptom of illness, not a disease.
  • Comment on the urine, and the patient's blood, with useful information in treatment.
  • He advised the need to avoid chemical medicines, especially when alternative treatment is available with food and herbs.
  • He excelled in various branches of medicine, explaining internal diseases, diseases of children, women, childbirth, venereal diseases, eye problems, surgery, and so on.
