How to clean a laptop

Computer cleaning

Cleaning the computer continuously and periodically is important to ensure that it continues to function as required and with the best performance, as the process of cleaning the computer may be either by cleaning the computer from the outside; That is, cleaning its hardware from dust and the like, or the cleaning may be from the inside at the software level, and both operations are very necessary for the safety of the computer.

How to clean the computer from the outside

Before starting the cleaning process, all electrical wires connected to the computer must be disconnected, especially the main wire to supply the computer with electricity, in order to ensure that the electronic parts inside remain uncharged. In addition, external devices connected to the computer, such as the mouse and keyboard, must also be separated, and it is preferable to move the computer to a ventilated place. High, as this is very important for personal health, in order to avoid inhaling dust during the cleaning process, and after completing the initial preparations, you can start preparing for the computer cleaning process, by following the following steps:

  • Opening a computer case or case (in English: Computer Case), by loosening the screws that secure it, and it must be noted that each type of computer case may differ in the way it is dismantled from another box.
  • Separate the wires attached to the side of the computer case, if any.
  • Separating electronic parts that are easy to separate, such as the video card, RAM sticks, and hard disks.
  • In the event that the fan dedicated to cooling the central processing unit (in English: CPU) is separated, it is highly preferable to replace the thermal grease (in English: thermal grease) at the top of the processor, and in the absence of thermal paste, it is not preferable to separate the fan.

After completing the preparation process, you can start cleaning the computer from dust, through the following steps:

  • Cleaning the previously separated electronic parts, using a compressed air canister used to clean the dust, so the air is released on the dust-filled areas in these parts.
  • Launching compressed air on the bases on which the random memory chips are installed.
  • Release compressed air on the fan for cooling the processor.
  • The release of compressed air on the fan intended for cooling the power supply unit (in English: Power supply unit).
  • Using compressed air to clean the computer case from the inside, especially the lower part of it, as it is the largest point where dust is collected, and a wet piece of cloth can be used to remove suspended dust.
  • Cleaning the various openings of the computer case using compressed air.

How to clean the computer from the inside

Cleaning the computer from the inside, that is, at the software level, helps greatly to keep the computer running at the required performance, and among the steps followed in this are the following:

  • deactivation of unimportant software, which runs immediately after the system is turned on; This step will greatly reduce the drain on the device's resources.
  • Cleaning the hard drive using dedicated software, such as those in the Windows operating system, where it deletes unimportant files that take up space on the hard drive.
  • Delete unimportant apps.
  • Using hard disk maintenance software, such as disk defragmentation software (in English: Disk defragmenter).
  • Use anti-virus software (in English: Anti-Virus) to scan the device and remove viruses, if any.

Problems caused by not cleaning the computer

Neglecting the regular maintenance of the computer, and not cleaning it regularly, may lead to several problems that limit the performance of the computer, including:

  • Hard disk crash.
  • The presence of software that exploits most of the computer's resources.
  • the presence of viruses; As it may disrupt the system, and this leads to a decrease in computer performance.
  • The presence of many programs that run immediately after the start of the operating system.
  • Low hard disk storage space.
  • dust accumulation in the device; This will lead to an increase in its temperature, and thus its performance will decrease.

Formatting the hard drive

Sometimes a computer user may have to reformat the hard disk (in English: Disk formatting), in order to delete all its files, due to a significant decrease in the performance of the device, or a system defect that cannot be repaired by simple methods, specialized software can be used to reformat the disk The hard disk can also be used as a compact disc (in English: CD) for downloading the Windows operating system, and this is done as follows:

  • Turn on the device and insert the Windows CD.
  • Reboot the device, and press any key on the keyboard when requested by the Windows operating system.
  • Choose the language, and then go to the next page by clicking on the Next button (in English: Next).
  • Click on the download button (in English: Install now).
  • After accepting the usage license, the Next button is pressed to go to the next page.
  • On the download type selection page, the advanced optional download (in English: Custom) is selected, and then you will be taken to the hard disk format page.
  • Delete all hard disk partitions (in English: Disk partitions).
  • Click on the partition on which it is written that it is unallocated (in English: Unallocated space).
  • Choose the size of the new partition to be created, and in the event that it is intended to make one large partition that takes up all the space of the hard disk, then the size of the partition is chosen by the size of the hard disk itself.
  • Pressing the hard disk format button (in English: Format).
  • More than one division can be made as desired in the same way as the previous three steps.
  • Upon completion, the partition on which you want to download the Windows operating system is selected, and then press the Next button.
  • Follow the instructions shown, and upon completion, the Windows operating system has been successfully downloaded.
