Clay making at home

Materials

• Ten cups of flour.
• Five cups of water.
• One cup of table salt.
• Half a cup of cooking oil.
• A cup of lemon juice.
• A packet of colored chalk.

The method of work

• Put water in a pot on the fire until it boils.
• Add the flour, oil, and lemon juice, and stir them well until we have a thick mixture.
• Remove the pot from the heat, pour it into a wide bowl, sprinkle some flour on it, then knead the mixture well.
• If we notice that the dough is sticking to the hand, we add an amount of oil, and continue kneading until a dough is formed that does not stick to the hands.
• We divide the dough into several sections.
• Grind the colored chalk, each color separately.
• We mix each piece of dough with a specific color of ground chalk, resulting in a group of balls of different colors, ready for use.
• Colored pigments can be used instead of chalk.
• This clay can be kept for more than a month if kept in airtight containers.

Making clay with beeswax

Using beeswax to make the clay makes it softer and lasts longer.

the ingredients

• A cup of cooking oil
• Two tablespoons of fine coconut
• A cup of lime
• Half a kilo of beeswax

The method of work

• We turn the wax into a liquid by heating it with boiling water. We put the wax in a bowl, and place the bowl in a larger bowl containing boiling water.
• We add lime to the wax and stir it until we have a homogeneous mixture.
• Add the oil and coconut to the mixture, stirring well.
• Remove the mixture from the heat and pour it into a wide bowl until it cools.
• If we notice that the mixture is hard and breakable, we add an amount of oil or Vaseline to it and rub it well until it becomes soft and smooth.
