Mushroom cultivation method

Mushroom cultivation

When growing mushrooms, you should choose the appropriate type first, then grow mushrooms at home in a cool, dark, and moist place, such as the basement of the house, or any dark place, in which the temperature and humidity can be controlled, and the temperature of the medium in which the mushrooms will grow must be raised. To 21 degrees Celsius, then put the mushroom seeds in a pan in this medium, where roots for these seeds will grow within about three weeks, and once this happens, the temperature must be reduced to about 13-16 degrees Celsius, as this is the best temperature for growing mushrooms Then you should cover the seeds with about an inch of soil, then cover the soil and the pan with a damp cloth, spray the cloth with water as it dries, and do the same with the soil as it dries, and in three to four weeks the mushrooms will start to grow.

Preparation of compost for mushrooms

It is recommended to prepare a good fertilizer for the mushroom plant, in order to obtain good crops. Fertilizer can be prepared by following the following:

  • Mixing and wetting the raw materials, and allowing them to decompose initially in the mound, usually these materials consist mainly of manure, straw, and 1.5 kg of gypsum, and 1 kg of urea or ammonium sulfate should be added for every 100 kg of straw and manure, as it will become the middle of the mound hot, and will darken in two weeks.
  • Turn the mound every 2-3 days, and add water to it as necessary to keep it moist.
  • Transfer the compost to a closed place after an additional two weeks have passed, where the temperature and oxygen level are controlled, to complete the composting process, as the temperature must remain between 40 and 60 degrees Celsius inside the pile, and monitor the temperature using a thermometer, as this process helps to Killing harmful pests and diseases, and at the end of this stage, the compost will be homogeneous, with a non-greasy texture, and a dark brown color.

Harvesting mushrooms

Mushrooms should be harvested as soon as they are fully grown, as small mushrooms will begin to appear approximately three weeks after they are planted, and they must be kept in a moist, cool, and dark environment to promote their growth. This would damage the mushrooms that are still growing below the surface. Alternatively, a sharp knife can be used to cut the mushrooms at the base of the stem. It is best to rinse the mushrooms before cooking or eating. Cut mushrooms can also be stored in a paper bag in the refrigerator for up to to a week.
