Learn to mix hair dye colors

Basics of mixing dye colors

Here are some basics to learn to know how to mix hair dye:

  • Knowing the basics of mixing colors and how to combine them to create complementary shades that are not contradictory. For example, shades of brown can go well with shades of red because the two colors complement each other, while combining shades of black with blond will lead to color dissonance, and the dye will appear inconsistent at all.
  • Knowing what dyes are and what they consist of, to avoid the damage resulting from them as much as possible while starting to use them.
  • Know the pigment numbers, and choose the correct colors for the desired color when combining them, taking into account that the higher the pigment number, the greater its ability to lighten the hair.
  • Mix hair color according to the general rule for mixing pigments, i.e. in a 1:1 ratio to get the best results.
  • You must mix equal amounts of peroxide liquid and dye, because this will achieve a uniform color in the hair, even after the hair roots grow again.

Dye tools

To carry out hair coloring at home, the following tools are required:

  • Protective gown to prevent contamination of clothing while performing the dye.
  • rubber gloves.
  • Plastic mixing bowl and dye brush.
  • Hair tweezers and sectioning comb.
  • Measuring beaker.
  • Cream or Vaseline to prevent the skin from being sensitive to the effect of the dye.

  • Knowing the number of oxygen liquid needed to mix the dye. The oxygen liquid, or developing liquid, is a substance composed of hydrogen peroxide that is combined with the dye to give the hair the necessary lightening, by oxidizing the dye molecules. Therefore, you must know how to deal with it when applying the dye.
  • Choose the appropriate number of oxygen liquid for the required color as follows:
    • 20% caliber: It can lighten natural hair just two shades.
    • 30% caliber: It helps lighten natural hair by three shades.
    • 40% caliber: Helps lighten natural hair color 4 and more.
  • Check the manufacturer's instructions before starting to apply the dye.
  • Mix the dye in a 1:1 ratio to achieve the best results in the dye.
  • Use high-quality dyes to avoid damage as much as possible.
