Pocahontas

Pocahontas is an American woman who belongs to the Native Americans (Native Americans) who met what they encountered by European explorers. Shedding light on her life through some immortal cinematic works, or perhaps because of the events she went through in her life.

The life of Pocahontas was not a simple life, for with its shortness it was full of many situations, and in its life there is an account of some of what the Native Americans went through during that important period in the life of humanity. The following is a review of the most important stages of her life.

Pocahontas story

Pocahontas was the daughter of the leader of a tribe of Native Americans, and she was born at the end of the sixteenth century AD, and she was called Matoaka. During the European expeditions on the American continent, Captain John Smith came to America, who later fell captive in the hands of her people, and she was the reason for his rescue.

During a battle that took place between her people and the English, she, in turn, fell captive at the hands of the English, and that was at the beginning of the seventeenth century AD, when her captors demanded a ransom from her people, but they did not achieve what the English wanted, so that Pocahontas remained a prisoner of them. During her captivity, Pocahontas converted to Christianity, and she also learned the English language, and changed her name to Rebecca, and when she was given the choice between her people and the English, she chose to stay with the English.

Later, Pocahontas married an English farmer, and went to live in Britain. British society at that time treated her as a barbaric woman who became civilized thanks to the events she went through. Pocahontas died at an early age and was buried in Britain.

Pocahontas at the movies

Several important films dealt with the life story of this American girl, perhaps the most prominent and important of which are the two complementary animated films from Walt Disney Company, named after her, where the first part dealt with her life in America, and her story with Captain John Smith, while the second part dealt with her trip to England, but these two films have added some new elements to the original story. It is noteworthy that the first part was directed by: Mike Gabriel and Eric Goldberg, while the second part was directed by: Tom Ellery and Bradley Raymond.

Among the other distinguished films that dealt with the life of this American lady is the distinguished director Terrence Malik’s film, The New World, where this film showed the characters of Pocahontas, played by actress Korianka Kilcher, and the character of Captain Smith, played by actor Colin Farrell, and the character of John Rolfe, who Performed by actor Christian Bale. What distinguished this film was that actress Erin Bedard played the role of Pocahontas' mother, and she is the same actress who performed the voice of Pocahontas herself in the two animated films that dealt with her biography.
