Sumaya's patience

The family of Yasser suffered the most severe types of torment for converting to Islam as a religion, but they were patient with all the harm and deprivation they experienced from their people. God filled their hearts with light. On the authority of Ammar bin Yasser, the polytheists tortured him to the point where he was forced to hide his faith and show disbelief, and a verse was revealed about Ammar. In the Almighty’s saying: ((Except him who is forced and whose heart is at ease with faith)). When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, came, he said: What is behind you? He said: Evil, O Messenger of God! I was not left behind until I got rid of you and spoke well of their gods! He said: How do you find your heart? He said: reassured by faith. He said: If they return to you, return to them

The Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, always gave them good news that they would have Paradise for their patience, endurance, and suffering

On the authority of Ibn Ishaq, he said: Men from the family of Ammar bin Yasser told me that Sumayyah, Ammar’s mother, was tortured by this neighborhood of the Banu Al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Omar bin Makhzum, and she refused to accept anything else, until they killed her. The Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - was passing by Ammar and his mother. And his father while they were being tortured with torture in Ramadan in Mecca, so he said: Be patient, family of Yasser, for your promise is Paradise.

Somaya's martyrdom

Sumaya was martyred after Abu Jahl stabbed her in the forehead with a spear in his hand, and she died as a result of that, and thus she became the first martyr in Islam.

When Abu Jahl was killed in the Battle of Badr, the Messenger said, “The best blessings and peace be upon him” to Ammar bin Yasser: “May God kill the killer of your mother.” At that time, Sumayyah was an old, steadfast woman who adhered to her religion.
