A moral evaluation of children, and children’s literature is considered to be indebted to the English writer John Newbery, the author of the first book directed to children with the aim of entertaining them and enriching their information, and it is entitled: “The Pretty Pocket Book” which was published in 1744.

It is said that a deceitful farmer sold the water well in his land to his neighbor for a large amount of money, and when the farmer who bought the well came to use the water in it the next day, the deceived man said to him: Go from here, man, for I sold you the well, but I did not sell you the existing water In it, the man was amazed at what he heard and went to the judge to complain to the deceitful farmer after many attempts to convince him that the well and the water in it were his right. If the water is yours and the well belongs to your neighbour, then go ahead and get your water out of his well. So, the deceitful man has gone mad and knows that deception does not harm anyone but its owner.

It is said that a farmer and his wife had a beautiful golden-colored chicken on their farm, and this chicken laid a golden egg every day, which they sold and met their needs, until one day this farmer thought of slaughtering the chicken to extract the golden eggs in her stomach, which he sells and through which he gets a lot of money. The farmer told his wife what he intended, so she tried to advise him not to do so, but he did not accept. The farmer prepared the knife and cut open the stomach of the chicken to get the golden eggs he had imagined, and he found nothing in it except blood and guts. It was their daily livelihood.

The lion is the king of the jungle and the little mouse

It is said that the lion, the king of the forest and its most powerful inhabitant, was one day asleep, when a small mouse that lived in the forest itself began to run around and jump over it and make disturbing sounds, which disturbed the lion's sleep and prompted him to wake up, and when the lion got up from his sleep he was angry, so he put his huge fist over the mouse, and he growled And he opened his mouth intending to swallow the little mouse with one morsel. Then the mouse shouted in a voice trembling with fear, hoping that the lion would pardon him, and said: “Forgive me this time, only this time and no other, O king of the jungle, and I promise you that I will not do this again, and that I will not forget your kindness to me. And also, gentle lion, who knows? Perhaps I can return this favor to you one day.” The lion laughed at the mouse’s words, and asked with a laugh: “What favor can a small mouse like you do to a great lion like me?” And how can you help me when I am the lion king of the jungle and you are the weak little mouse?” The lion decided to release the mouse just because he said to him what made him laugh, so he lifted his fist from him and let him go about his business.

Days passed after that incident until some wandering hunters in the forest managed to catch the lion and tie it to a tree trunk, then they set off to get a cart to transport the lion in it to the zoo, and when the hunters were absent looking for the cart, the little mouse passed by the tree to which the lion was tied With it, to see the lion falling into an unenviable predicament, so the little mouse gnawed at the ropes that the hunters used to fix the lion and its captivity, until he cut all of those ropes, freeing the lion, then the mouse went after it swaggering while happily saying: “Yes, you were right, a mouse can Small is the help of a great lion like me, for one is measured by his actions, not by his size, and each of us has his own need in this life.”

Motherland

There were two small, tender birds living in a spot of the land of Hijaz that was very hot and had little water. One day, while they were chatting and complaining to each other about the difficult conditions of life, a pleasant breeze came from the land of Yemen. And when Nessma Al-Rih saw the two beautiful birds standing on a simple branch of a lonely tree in the area, she was amazed at their situation and said: “Oh, you two beautiful birds, you are amazing, so how do you accept, when you are so kind and gentle, to live in a desolate land like this?” If you wish, I will carry you with me and take you to Yemen from whence I come, where the water is sweet and cold, its taste is more delicious than honey, and the grains are almost as sweet as sugar.
