Network control

the network

A computer network is a group of computers and servers, in addition to various network devices such as routers and firewalls, all of which are linked to each other to allow the transfer of data between them. The World Wide Web (the Internet) is one of the most famous examples of computer networks. It includes millions of computers from all over the world.

The network can be divided according to its size into several types, the most famous of which are the following:

  • Local Area Network (in English: Local Area Network), in which network devices are connected over close distances. Examples of this type of network are home networks, networks used in schools, and so on.
  • Wide Area Network (in English: Wide Area Network), in which network devices are connected over vast distances that may cover the entire globe, just like the Internet. It can be said that the Wide Area Network is a group of local networks dispersed over a specific geographical area, and a router is used. To connect local networks to distant networks.
  • A wireless local area network (in English: Wireless Local Area Network) is a local network with a wireless connection between its devices using Wi-Fi technology.
  • Regional area network (in English: Metropolitan Area Network). This type of network is located in terms of size between local networks and distant networks. It is larger than local networks but smaller than distant networks. These networks are usually used within cities, and may be controlled from Before governments.
  • Personal Network (in English: Personal Area Network).
  • Storage Area Network: These networks are used to connect servers to data storage devices through a specific means such as fiber optic technology.

Network topology

Network topology (in English: Network topology) means the relationship between connected devices and how they are depicted in a diagram. It is possible to determine the number of devices connected to each other in addition to their arrangement and sequence. There are several forms that the network can take, which are as follows:

  • Star topology: It is used in home networks, in which all devices are connected to a specific connection point, such as a router or switch. A malfunction in any of the computing devices in this network will only harm the connection of the device itself to the network, not the entire network.
  • Tree topology: It is most commonly used in homes, and it is also used in companies. It is considered a mixture of star and bus topologies, in which several networks using star topology are connected on a single wire (the bus). Due to this, networks of this type are more expandable at a later time.
  • Ring topology: In this type of network, each device in the network is connected to two other devices for the purpose of communication. When data is sent, it is transmitted in the form of a loop, either clockwise or counterclockwise, from device to device until it reaches the desired location, and in the event of a defect in one of the communication wires between the devices connected or a specific device in the network, the network will stop working.
  • Mesh topology: Examples of this type of network are the Internet and WAN, which are different in structure from other topologies. Where all devices are connected to each other to form a network, when data is sent to a specific point, this data can take several paths to reach this point.
  • Bus topology: In this type of network, all devices are connected to one wire.

Network control

Access the router's control panel

If the user wants to change the network settings, he must enter the control panel of his router, and this is done as follows:

  • First, you must know the IP address of the router. This can be done by using the “ipconfig” command in the command prompt in the Windows operating system. After writing the command, the router’s IP address will be It says “Default gateway” next to it.
  • A web browser is opened and the previously extracted IP address is entered in the address field (in English: Address bar).
  • Log in to the command interface. The router’s administrative account information is usually printed on one side. If the user has forgotten or lost the account information and is unable to log in, he can reset the router to its factory settings by pressing the dedicated button on the device. The user may have to use a tool with a pointed tip, such as a pin, to be able to press the button.

Know the devices connected to the network

All devices connected to the network, including computers, mobile devices, printers, etc., can be detected through the router’s control panel, and this is done as follows:

  • Enter the router's control panel.
  • On the status display page (in English: Status page) or on the wireless network settings page (in English: Wi-Fi Configuration), options are searched to display “Connected devices” (in English: Attached devices), or (in English: Connected devices), or What are called (in English: DHCP Clients), or something similar; The options vary from one router to another.
  • A list of all connected devices will appear, showing the host name (in English: Hostname) for each device in addition to its MAC address (in English: MAC Address).

Disconnect devices connected to the network

The user can disconnect devices connected to the network through several methods: This can be done through specific software, such as the Netcut program for the Windows operating system, or the JamWiFi program for devices running the Mac OS : WiFi Kill) for Android devices, or simply from the router's control panel; Enter the Hosts Automated Configuration Protocol settings (in English: DHCP Settings) and expel the device if the router supports this feature. If it is not possible to use the mentioned methods, you can contact the Internet service provider company and inform them of the presence of an unwanted device connected to the network. Sometimes the company may do this remotely.
