Making soap from oils

Soap can be made using three types of oils and an alkaline solution. To prepare about 1.36 kilograms of soap, the following method can be used:

  • The materials required to make this soap are:
    • 184.27 grams of palm oil.
    • 184.27 grams of coconut oil.
    • 212.62 grams of olive oil.
    • 36.85 grams of castor oil.
    • 28.34 grams of essential oil.
    • 0.236 liters of water.
    • 0.091 liters of solution.
  • Mixing the solution:
    • Put about 0.236 liters of water in a bottle, or in a plastic container.
    • Slowly add about 0.091 liters of alkaline solution to the water, taking care not to inhale the resulting fumes, close the solution container, put it in a safe place, and avoid adding water to the solution.
    • Gently stir the mixture until the solution is completely dissolved, and wash the spoon that was used for stirring.
    • Cover the container containing the solution, and place it in a safe place to cool down to a temperature of 37.78 degrees Celsius.
  • soap making:
    • Weigh the solid oils, and heat them until they dissolve completely.
    • Put the melted oil in a soap pot, on a low temperature.
    • Add the liquid oils after weighing to the melted solid oils in the soap bowl.
    • Pour the solution over the oils slowly, when the temperature of the oils and the solution becomes 37.78°C.
    • Stir the mixture, until the soap becomes thick.
    • Remove the soap from the heat, then add the essential oil, and mix it with the soap well.
    • Pour the soap into the molds, and leave it for 12-24 hours until it cools completely.
    • Remove the soap from the molds, cut it into slices, and leave it for 2-4 weeks before using it.

  • Leave the soap to cool for several hours, or overnight.
  • Stir the soap to check its consistency; If it is very fluid, it is heated and more soap is added to it, and if it is very thick, it is heated and more water is added to it.
  • Add a few drops of oil, or colored dye, as desired, taking care that the essential oil content does not exceed 2% of the recipe, and 1% of it if it is to be used by children.
  • Pour the soap into empty soap containers.

  • Cutting a bar of white or transparent soap into small pieces of equal size. Manufactured soap usually contains glycerin and some coconut oil, which are very beneficial for the skin. Where glycerin helps moisturize the skin, and coconut helps nourish and soften it.
  • Put the soap pieces in a heat-resistant container, put them in the microwave, heat them for 30 seconds, then stir them.
  • Insert the soap back into the microwave for another 15 seconds, stir it again, and repeat the process until the soap is completely dissolved, leaving it to cool slightly, and it can also be melted on the stove.
  • Adding several drops of an essential oil to the soap, such as: tea tree oil, which has antibacterial properties, lavender oil, which has antiviral and antibacterial properties, and chamomile oil suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Adding a teaspoon or a tablespoon of cinnamon and cardamom to the soap, as desired; They are astringents, and are good for oily skin, or oats and wheat bran, which are natural exfoliants.
  • Adding artificial color to the soap when desired to color it, and the soap can also be colored with natural materials, such as: cocoa powder to give it a light brown color, and sweet pepper to give it a reddish-pink color.
  • Grease the soap mold with a thin layer of Vaseline; to facilitate its removal from the mould.
  • Pour the soap into the mold, and wipe its surface with a little alcohol; to get rid of air bubbles that may appear on it.
  • Leave the soap until it hardens completely, and this process usually takes a period of 30 to 60 minutes, and it can be placed in the refrigerator to speed up its hardening.
  • Remove the soap from the mold when it hardens, and cut it into small pieces for use.
